Russell, 2010):  USA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by <a href=\"https:\/\/g9r.3b8.myftpupload.com\/?author=49\" target=\"_blank\">Kathleen Amboy<\/a>.\u00a0 Viewed at the Riviera, Santa Barbara, CA.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wearemoviegeeks.com\/wp-content\/the_fighter062.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; float: left\" width=\"325\" height=\"200\"\/>\u00a0 <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0964517\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Fighter<\/a><\/em>\u00a0 is based on the real life story of two boxers,\u00a0&#8220;Irish&#8221; Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and his brother Dicky Eklund (Christian Bale), from Lowell, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p>Dicky, a former boxer and known as\u00a0the &#8220;Pride of Lowell,&#8221;\u00a0 had his\u00a0fifteen minutes of fame in the\u00a0one-time fight with Sugar Ray Leonard back in &#8217;78 in which he was defeated,\u00a0but constantly lives in the glory of it.\u00a0 Dicky\u00a0trains his younger brother Micky with all of his expertise only when he is not distracted by a local crack house or the HBO camera that follows him around\u00a0in an attempt to document his drug abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Micky has the makings of a champ, if not for his crack addicted brother and their domineering\u00a0mother Alice\u00a0(Melissa Leo),\u00a0who manages Micky, but\u00a0is openly rooting for a comeback for Dicky.\u00a0 Charlene (Amy Adams) is Micky&#8217;s girl and always in his corner, but is\u00a0referred to as the skank by his sisters, since she\u00a0advises him to lose Alice and Dicky for a\u00a0 more professional management team.<\/p>\n<p>A brush with the law puts Dicky behind bars, while Micky gets better management and opportunities.\u00a0 Yet despite the chaos that encircles his\u00a0\u00a0family, Micky realizes he wants and needs their support in order to win the WBU Light Welterweight Championship title.<\/p>\n<p>Great action sequences abound, with the fight scenes shot by an HBO crew for authenticity.\u00a0 Wahlberg is fit, has the physique and moves\u00a0of a pro-boxer, and portrays Micky with a low-key intensity that is his strongest role yet.\u00a0 Bale, who\u00a0lost\u00a0about thirty pounds in order to portray the drug-addled Dicky,\u00a0is so immersed into his kinetic character that you forget he&#8217;s Christian Bale.\u00a0 Truly a remarkable film and completely entertaining with the humor, hurt and triumph of a dysfunctional family.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Fighter<\/em>\u00a0is as good, if not better, than <em>Rocky<\/em> or <em>Raging Bull<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by Kathleen Amboy.\u00a0 Viewed at the Riviera, Santa Barbara, CA. \u00a0 The Fighter\u00a0 is based on the real life story of two boxers,\u00a0&#8220;Irish&#8221; Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and his brother Dicky Eklund (Christian Bale), from Lowell, Massachusetts.
