\"\"\u00a0 There once was a film titled 8 1\/2, which then\u00a0inspired a play, which became a Broadway\u00a0musical, then a book, and voila a film titled Nine<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 It is loosely based on an\u00a0episode in the life of Italian\u00a0director Federico Fellini.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Film director\u00a0Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis)\u00a0is turning fifty, and about\u00a0ready to crash and\u00a0burn\u00a0from his\u00a0midlife crisis.\u00a0 He is surrounded by a string of women such as\u00a0\u00a0his wife, mother,\u00a0mistress, mentor\u00a0and even\u00a0former loves.\u00a0\u00a0He looks to each one for comfort or inspiration, either physically or\u00a0through\u00a0his imagination\u00a0and flashbacks,\u00a0but\u00a0none of which\u00a0can help him.<\/p>\n

Contini is\u00a0an egoist who\u00a0has thrived in his world of film fantasy for the purpose of creating art, but now\u00a0the well has\u00a0run dry.\u00a0 He looks to the various women in his life\u00a0for answers,\u00a0since filming is soon to begin on his next project, but alas, there is no project to speak of.<\/p>\n

In desperation,\u00a0Guido turns to his much under-appreciated\u00a0wife Luisa (played brilliantly by Marion Cotillard) for her professional help, and against her better judgment she agrees, only to discover her private life has been played out on a screen for all to witness.<\/p>\n

Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Dame Judi Dench,\u00a0Fergie and Sophia Loren portray the various women in Contini’s life, with a dance number performed by Kate\u00a0Hudson that is highly reminiscent of Goldie Hawn.\u00a0 Daniel Day-Lewis manages to\u00a0pull it off as\u00a0the\u00a0self-destructive Contini, but the one to watch in this fast-paced extravaganza is undeniably Marion Cotillard, who is simply\u00a0outstanding as the long suffering wife – turned vixen in her musical vignette.<\/p>\n

You will remember Rob Marshall as the director of Chicago (2002), but the highly-charged\u00a0Nine, is nine times more fun to watch!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
